On the 28th November 2007 a cheque to the value of £1000 was presented to the Liver Support Group at the Q.E by Mr Eric Darch.
Mr & Mrs Darch. Cheque received by Alan Hyde (centre) Visitor Co Ordinator.
Mr Darch had his Liver Transplant at the Q.E on the 11th June 2007 and also became the 3000th Liver Transplant Patient, another milestone reached at the Q.E .
The money was raised for Mr Darch by his daughter Sarah through sponsorship after running in the Cardiff half marathon held on 14th October 2007.
This was Sarah's first attempt at a race of this kind and achieved her goal by completing the course. A result she can be justly proud of.
Your liver is your life.
You only have one and though it is unique in its ability to regenerate, it can only survive limited damage - so it does need looking after.
The liver is the largest gland, and solid organ in the body, weighing some 1.8 kg in men and 1.3 kg in women. It holds approximately 13% (about one pint or 0.57 litres) of the total blood supply at any given moment, and it is estimated that it has over 500 functions.
